Our Boat

The photos are from the online listing before we bought her.

Night Music is a 1986 Southern Cross 39

Southern Cross Yachts, 28, 31, 35 and 39 were designed by Naval Architect, Thomas Gillmer. Mr. Gillmer served as professor of Naval Architecture at the United StatesNaval Academy (head of the design department) and designed the first fiberglass boat to circumnavigate the globe, Seawind ketch named APOGEE.The Southern Cross combines the best of modern design with the sea-keeping ability of the traditional double-ended Colin Archer boats to create a fast, rugged, vessel capable of
extended passage.

The name Night Music is original to the vessel. After much contemplation we decided not to change it.

She is a cutter rig with a deep cockpit, 2 cabins, 1 head with standing shower. She is very comfortable. Her draft is 5.5 feet, a 57′ mast and 12.1′ beam. Click on the below image for a good view . . .

So here are some more recent photos taken by our friend Rory, December 2011.

  2. I never had a spec of trouble with that engine. I was a bit concerned that having been stored for that much time that you might have had a bit of issues with old fuel; I’m glad you averted that! I did have a good fuel separator/filter on there; I think that was an upgrade I did myself, if I recall correctly.

I *did* have to rewire the alternator wiring, offshore, returning from Nova Scotia, because they didn’t use a heavy-enough gauge of wiring for the capacity of the alternators I’d chosen!

I love the script you’ve chosen for the Night Music name; it suits her well.

    • Thanks Bob! The engine is tough as nails! We’ve had a few maintenance things, but we are very happy! Glad you like the script for Night Music – we thought it was a good fit too!
